Edinburgh Honey Co.

Posted by Lara MacLeod on

Edinburgh Honey Company began over 60 years ago in Poland, passed down through the family to its current owners, who continue the tradition of sustainable beekeeping. As well as promoting beekeeping through educational activities, Edinburgh Honey Co. also works hard to reduce their environmental impact with recyclable packaging materials and low emission vehicles.

At Collective, we stock their Honey Infusions, and their beautiful beeswax candles. Read on to hear more about the company, their products, and their ethos!

What is unique about your honey products?

At Edinburgh Honey Co. our honey is 100% raw, unfiltered and cold-extracted - meaning it’s never heated or processed, preserving all of its natural enzymes, antioxidants, and nutrients.

One of the founders of Edinburgh Honey Co, Andrew, is part of 3 generation beekeepers and he makes sure that every jar, whether from our Scottish Hives or our Polish Hives, reflects the authenticity, quality and rich floral diversity of its origin.

How are your beeswax candles made?

Our beeswax candles are hand-poured using pure, natural beeswax sourced directly from our trusted beekeepers. We avoid additives, fragrances, or artificial colouring - allowing the warm, honeyed scent of real beeswax to shine through. Beeswax burns cleanly, with a longer burn time and minimal soot, making it a healthier and more eco-conscious alternative to paraffin-based candles.

Can you tell us more about the variety of honeys that you offer? What would be your favourite?

We offer a wide selection of honeys that reflect both the Scottish Highlands and the diverse floral landscapes of Poland. As a taster these are the staff favourites:

Scottish Heather Honey - Bold, aromatic and famously rich in antioxidants.
Polish Wildflower Honey - Delicate and floral with hints of summer meadows.
Buckwheat Honey - Dark and earthy, packed with beneficial nutrients.
Coriander Blossom Honey - Unique fresh notes with (not overwhelmingly strong) coriander flavour as a subtle spicy aftertaste.
Cranachan - Creamed honey infusion with Scottish raspberries and a subtle hint of smoky whiskey. As rich and flavourful as the traditional dessert it's named after.

How are your honeys good for the bees and for humans?

For bees, our commitment to ethical, small-scale beekeeping means they are never over-harvested. Ensure enough honey if left in the hives for their health and winter survival. By supporting sustainable practices, we promote biodiversity and help protect native pollinator populations.

For humans, raw honey is packed with natural enzymes. Antioxidants, vitamins, and antibacterial properties. It supports digestion, immunity, and overall wellness - all while being a delicious natural sweetener.

What can the general public do to help support bees and biodiversity?

Everyone can play a role in supporting bees and biodiversity:
- Plant bee-friendly flowers and herbs like lavender, thyme, and wildflowers.
- Avoid using pesticides and herbicides in gardens and green spaces.
- Buy from sustainable sources - support local, ethical beekeepers and eco-friendly products.
- Create habitats like bee hotels or leave parts of your garden wild.
- Spread awareness about pollinator protection and sustainable agriculture.
